Founded in 1879, Florida Memorial University is a private historically Black institution in Miami Gardens and holds the distinction of being the only HBCU in South Florida. The university is best known for its standout Aviation program—one of the few among HBCUs nationwide, equipped with its own fleet of aircraft and flight simulators—alongside strong offerings in cybersecurity, business administration, criminal justice, and education. Blending deep cultural heritage with South Florida's urban vibrancy, FMU offers a tight-knit, empowering campus experience highlighted by active Greek life, competitive NAIA athletics, and renowned performing arts groups such as the marching band and the Ambassador Chorale.
