Meadville Lombard Theological School, based in Chicago, Illinois, is best known as a pioneering progressive seminary affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association, dedicated to justice-centered religious leadership and ministry. The school’s strongest academic offerings are its Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Leadership Studies, both designed to integrate rigorous theological education with anti-oppressive community praxis. Rather than a traditional residential campus experience, the school offers a hybrid learning model where students remain rooted in their home communities for field internships and convene in Chicago for intensive residency study convocations. What sets Meadville Lombard apart is its Grounded Learning curriculum, which fundamentally re-imagines ministerial formation by requiring continuous, contextual, hands-on social justice work throughout the degree program.
