About

Located on Chicago’s Northwest Side, Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) is a public institution renowned for its exceptional student diversity, affordability, and longstanding status as a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution. Academically, NEIU is best known for its Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education, which has a storied history of preparing urban educators, as well as respected programs in social work, business, computer science, and the sciences. The campus culture is largely commuter-friendly and tight-knit, offering small class sizes, personalized faculty mentorship, and dozens of active multicultural student organizations. Setting NEIU apart are its dedicated community-embedded learning sites—including El Centro in Avondale and the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies in Bronzeville—which deeply integrate coursework with local community outreach across Chicago.
