About
Located in Prague, Czech Republic, the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) is globally renowned as one of Europe's top cinematic institutions, best known for its hands-on approach to filmmaking, screenwriting, and animation. Its strongest programs are housed within its dedicated departments of direction, cinematography, and documentary film, where students shoot extensively on 16mm and 35mm film alongside digital formats. For international students, the faculty offers several specialized, English-taught degree programs and semester-long workshops that attract creative talent from all over the world. The International Office and the FAMU International department provide robust support, including visa assistance, housing guidance, and integration events tailored to non-Czech speakers. A uniquely distinctive characteristic of FAMU is its rich historical legacy as the alma mater of legendary Czech New Wave directors like Miloš Forman and Jiří Menzel, allowing modern international students to train in the very studios that shaped modern cinema history.
