About

Located in Regina, Canada, the First Nations University of Canada is a unique federated college of the University of Regina dedicated to the preservation, protection, and interpretation of Indigenous history, language, culture, and artistic traditions. Academically, the institution is best known for its culturally integrated programs in Indigenous social work, business administration, education, and environmental science that weave traditional knowledge with mainstream curricula. For international students, the campus offers a deeply immersive learning environment characterized by small class sizes, supportive Indigenous-focused student services, and a dedicated international student support team to help ease the transition to Canadian academic life. While all classes are taught in English, the student body represents a vibrant mix of First Nations and global perspectives, creating a profoundly cross-cultural educational community. A truly distinctive characteristic of the university is its architectural design, shaped like a sacred circle, which symbolizes the institution's core mission of holistic learning and reconciliation.

Background

The First Nations University of Canada (abbreviated as FNUniv) is a post-secondary institution and federated college of the University of Regina, based in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. FNUniv operates three campuses within the province, in Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon. The university offers academic programs in business, the humanities, social sciences, and sciences; including a number of programs focused around Indigenous practices. The institution originates from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC), a federated college established in May 1976 through an agreement between the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and the University of Regina. In June 2003, the institution was renamed the FNUniv, with its new Regina campus opened later that year.
