About

Located in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Royal Danish Academy of Music is the country's oldest and largest institution of higher musical education, internationally renowned for producing world-class classical performers, composers, and music educators. Its strongest programs center on instrumental performance, voice, composition, and conducting, with masterclasses and instruction led by prominent international artists and resident faculty. The Academy provides a deeply immersive artistic environment where international students make up a significant portion of the student body, benefiting from a vibrant campus culture situated in a historic former broadcasting house. International students are fully supported by a dedicated student administration office that assists with admissions, housing guidance, and integration into both the conservatory and Danish society. A distinctive characteristic of the Academy is its unique dual-faculty structure combining classical music with a specialized rhythmic (contemporary/jazz) music department, offering rare cross-genre collaborative opportunities for aspiring musicians.

Carl Nielsen was a teacher in the period 1916–1919 and the rector during the last year of his life. The academy was renamed to Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium in 1902 and became a national state institution in 1949. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is Protector of the institution. Originally located on H.C. Andersens Boulevard, it relocated into Radiohuset, the former headquarters of the Danish national radio broadcasting corporation DR, on 1 September 2008 and took over the concert hall...
