About

Located in Kingston, Canada, the Royal Military College of Canada is a unique bilingual federal institution that serves as the military college for the Canadian Armed Forces. Academically, the institution is best known for its rigorous integration of military leadership, physical fitness, and higher education, offering strong undergraduate and graduate programs across arts, science, and engineering. While the primary mission is to train officer cadets for military service in both English and French, international students—particularly military personnel through specific exchange agreements—experience a highly structured, immersive campus environment steeped in tradition. The college provides comprehensive support infrastructure tailored to its tight-knit cadet community, ensuring that all students navigate demanding academic and military curricula successfully. A truly distinctive characteristic of the college is its location on Point Frederick, a historic naval site featuring its own museum and fortifications, which anchors the academic day in centuries of Canadian military heritage.

Background

The Royal Military College of Canada (French: Collège militaire royal du Canada), abbreviated in English as RMC and in French as CMR, is a military academy and, since 1959, a degree-granting university of the Canadian Armed Forces. It was established in 1874 and conducted its first classes on June 1, 1876. Programs are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels, both on campus as well as through the college's distance learning program via the Division of Continuing Studies. Located on Point Frederick, a 41-hectare (101-acre) peninsula in Kingston, Ontario, the college is a mix of historic buildings and more modern academic, athletic, and dormitory facilities. RMC officer cadets are trained in what are known as the "four pillars": academics, officership, athletics, and bilingualism.
