Greenland
Located in Nuuk, Greenland, the University of Greenland is the country's sole university and is best known academically for its focus on Arctic studies, indigenous rights, and circumpolar social sciences. Its strongest faculties include Greenlandic society, cultural history, and social work, offering unique insight into the Arctic region that cannot be found anywhere else. While instruction in undergraduate programs is primarily in Danish or Greenlandic, the university welcomes international exchange students through specific partnership agreements and offers selected courses and supervision in English. The International Office provides dedicated support to help visiting students navigate the distinctive campus culture and the dramatic landscapes of Nuuk. What truly sets this institution apart is its remote, immersive setting, which places students directly at the heart of contemporary Arctic research and indigenous community life.
The University of Greenland (Greenlandic: Ilisimatusarfik Kalaallit Nunaat; Danish: Grønlands Universitet) is Greenland's only university. It is in the capital city of Nuuk. Most courses are taught in Danish, with a few in Greenlandic, but classes by exchange lecturers are often in English. The university had an enrollment of 205 students in 2018, composed of mostly Greenlandic inhabitants. It has around fourteen academic staff and five technical-administrative employees. The modest student population is due, in part, to most Greenlandic students going to universities in Denmark.
