About

College of The Albemarle (COA) in Elizabeth City is a comprehensive public institution serving seven counties in northeastern North Carolina, recognized historically as the state’s very first community college. The college is best known for its high-demand health sciences division—especially its competitive nursing and surgical technology programs—as well as specialized vocational offerings in aviation systems technology, marine trades, and direct transfer pathways to four-year North Carolina universities. With additional campuses across Dare, Currituck, and Chowan counties, the student culture is close-knit, career-focused, and tailored to the workforce needs of the surrounding coastal and rural communities. Its distinctive blend of modern technical training facilities, low-cost tuition, and strong partnerships with regional employers makes COA an accessible stepping stone for both aspiring professionals and transfer-bound scholars.
