Penn State New Kensington is a close-knit commonwealth campus situated just northeast of Pittsburgh, offering students the resources and prestige of a major Big Ten research university within an intimate, supportive learning environment. The campus is best known for practical, career-focused programs such as Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology (EMET), Business, Biobehavioral Health, and Information Sciences and Technology, alongside Penn State’s flexible 2+2 plan that allows students to transition to University Park or another campus to complete over 275 majors. Campus culture is collaborative and community-oriented, uniquely distinguished by the Digital Foundry at New Kensington, an advanced innovation hub that provides students with hands-on training and networking opportunities in smart manufacturing and digital technology.

The campus has an enrollment of 545 undergraduate students and offers twelve bachelor's degree programs and five associate degree programs as well as four men's and four women's sports. In May 2025, the Board of Trustees of Pennsylvania State University announced the closure of seven of its twenty regional Commonwealth campuses after the Spring 2027 semester, including Penn State New Kensington.
