The Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry (IAUPR) in Bayamón is best known as the only bilingual optometric institution in the United States and the wider Caribbean. Its flagship, ACOE-accredited Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) program is recognized for strong clinical training, which immerses students in hands-on patient care through the university's on-site Eye Institute and affiliated clinical sites. Campus culture is tight-knit, collaborative, and culturally rich, supported by small cohort sizes and a student body drawing from both mainland Puerto Rico and internationally. A key distinguishing feature is the opportunity to deliver comprehensive eye care to an underserved, predominantly Spanish-speaking population, uniquely preparing graduates for culturally competent practice in diverse healthcare settings.
